Indie legend Pete Doherty has expressed his determination to reform The Libertines, and claims he will convince Carl Barat to join him.
The Libertines are perhaps the most influential British group of the past decade. In their wake thousands of musicians picked up the guitar and began writing songs of wide eyed wonder and innocence.
The group split after divisions emerged between twin songwriters Carl Barat and Pete Doherty. Barat went on to form Dirty Pretty Things, while Doherty worked with Babyshambles.
With both now working on their own, rumours are circulating that the band could reform.
Backstage at the O2 Academy Brixton Doherty told the NME that “I’ve written and recorded a solo record”.
“There’s probably another on the way, there’s an amazing ‘Shambles record on the way, and The Libertines is gonna happen in the next couple of years, by hook or by crook.”
He added: “I don’t twist it too far. He doesn’t take kindly to it. He’s not harder than me, but he’s got a nasty streak, twist it too far and it’ll snap.”
