Doherty Sold Strokes Drug

Singer reveals acid deal

Indie icon Pete Doherty has revealed that he sold New York group The Strokes acid.

A strange as it may seem, there was a time when Pete Doherty was entirely unknown. Back in 2001 before things got going for The Libertines he was a lowly barman, who it appears may have dabbled in other substances.

In a new interview with ShortList magazine the singer claims he met the New York group while working in London. The two parties were then still unknown, with The Strokes playing some of their first London shows.

“I actually already knew them (The Strokes) before I was in a band or anything,” he explained. “It was back when I was working in a bar pulling pints. I used to sell a few little things on the side, you know?”

“They were on their first tour, and were like just a few American lads in London looking for a good time. They met a friend of mine, who said I could get them a few bits and bobs. I think I sold them a load of acid, they gave me tickets to their gig, I got them some more acid and it went from there.”

The Strokes have yet to comment on the claims.

Pete Doherty has been busy of late putting the finishing touches to his debut solo album ‘Grace / Wastelands’. Produced by Stephen Street, the album feature Blur guitarist Graham Coxon throughout.

Pete Doherty releases his new album ‘Grace / Wastelands’ on March 16th.
