Breakout rapper Doechii today shares her first release of the year, a powerhouse release titled ‘Alter Ego’, featuring City Girl’s JT.
Yesterday, the Tampa, Florida rapper-singer teased her new era on Instagram, declaring 2024 the ‘Year Of The Swamp’. Following last year’s metal-influenced ‘Pacer’, new single ‘Alter Ego’ is another hardcore declaration, taking dizzying detours through crunk, sibilant rap and house, as Doechii and JT trade bars about their prowess and powers of adaptability, whilst repudiating other clones and counterfeits.
In the last few years, Doechii has quickly ascended as renegade rap prospect, co-signed by the likes of Nicki Minaj, Azealia Banks, and SZA. The Floridian is one of the most versatile artists in music today. She’s amassed a cult following on SoundCloud, and has several hits to her name, namely ‘What It Is‘ and ‘Persuasive’, which have showcased her staccato phrasing and malleable visual identity.
