San Francisco folk rock duo The Dodos have finished recording their new album which is due for release in August.
Formed by Meric Long and Logan Kroeber, The Dodos make truly special music. Mixing roots music with psychedelic flourishes the band’s songwriting and relentless touring saw them gather a cult following.
Debut album ‘Beware Of The Maniacs’ was a word of mouth hit, blending frenetic African drumming with glorious harmonies. Taken under the wing of Les Savy Fav, the New York group once described them as the finest support act they have ever had.
Second album ‘Visiter’ was released last year, and became a massive critical success. The Dodos’ finest effort to date, it spawned the single ‘Red And Purple’. On the band’s subsequent tour the group recruited a number of new musicians and instruments, including using a bin for percussion.
Having taken time off to rest, the band plunged back into writing. It seems as if recording sessions have gone well with The Dodos ready to release their third album. Produced by Phil Ek, the album is due to be released on August 31st.
“After Visiter, we had a lot of options for which direction to go,” says Merick Long. “But I knew we wanted to make a rock record. Being an acoustic band—primarily, at least—sort of works against this idea, but Phil’s production showcased that side of our band.”
The Dodos have recruited a new member for the upcoming release. Drafting in Keaton Snyder, the 21 year old is set to play vibraphone on the band’s new album.
“The vibraphone is pretty crazy and loud,” adds Meric Long. “and if you put it through some effects, you can make it sound like a guitar or synthesizer. It still has that element of something you’re hitting, though, which is central to how Logan and I play our instruments.”
The Dodos are due to release their new album ‘Time To Die’ on August 31st. The band have also confirmed the following tour dates:
September
1 Birmingham Glee Club
2 Bristol Thekla
3 London Bush Hall
4 Glasgow King Tuts
5 Manchester Ruby Lounge
