DNB Pioneer MC Fats Has Died

The iconic DNB vocalist has passed...

Reports are coming in that iconic DNB vocalist MC Fats has died.

The MC had been struggling with health issues for some time. In 2013, complications with diabetes took him to hospital, with medical professionals forced to amputate one leg below the knee. The following year, he battled back to release his studio album ‘We Gotcha’, with the assistance of DJ A Sides and a glittering cast.

In 2018 MC Fats was admitted to hospital in Sardinia, while 2019 saw him undergo major heart surgery.

Although no formal statement has been made by MC Fats family, news of his passing has been confirmed by multiple sources. Seminal DNB label Ram Records said: “We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of MC Fats. He was a legend of DNB and a dear member of our family from the very beginning.”

Jungle pioneer Doc Scott tweeted: “Rest easy MC Fats, thank you for all the laughs and good times along the way, it’s a sad day for DNB, see you on the other side my friend.”

MC Fats came up through system culture, first gaining prominence during the first wave of jungle. A key player in the scene’s transition towards DNB, he voiced DJ Hype’s 1996 anthem, ‘Peace Love & Unity’ on Playaz Recordings.

Retaining a near unrivalled prominence in the scene, he worked with huge names such as Calibre and Chase & Status, as well as a host of labels, such as V Recordings, Metalheadz, Digital Soundboy, Shogun Audio and Ram Records.

Unable to perform in latter years due to his health issues, MC Fats kept releasing music, with his latest single ‘Natural Way’ landing in November 2022.

Rest in power.
