DJ Shadow has confirmed plans for new rarities compilation ‘Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From the MPC Era, 1992-1996’.
‘Endtroducing’ was a classic first time out. A masterpiece seemingly plucked from the ether, DJ Shadow’s debut album has gone down in hip hop lore for its dense, beautiful array of samples from a massive array of sources.
Yet it wasn’t quite that easy. DJ Shadow went through years of experimentation, gently forming his sound and moving through different phases of production.
Now the hip hop icon is set to release a new compilation focussing on his formative years. Pitchfork points us towards ‘Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From the MPC Era, 1992-1996’, which traces his evolution.
Announced on his official website, DJ Shadow has pieced together the new compilation from his own archive. No release date as yet, but ‘Total Breakdown…’ is set to be available digitally as well as CD and vinyl.
As a preview, DJ Shadow is offering up his 1996 track ‘Affectations’ as a free download – grab it below.
