DJ Shadow Close To Completing New Album

"I'm about half-way done"

Legendary West Coast turntablist DJ Shadow is close to completing his new album.

Few debut albums have had the impact of ‘Endtroducing’. DJ Shadow’s first full length effort, its bewildering tapestry of samples nonetheless had a coherency that was devoid in much of hip hop.

Almost entirely instrumental, DJ Shadow has since progressed to become a much more streamlined producer. Working with an array of rappers and singers, the producer last released an album in 2006 with ‘The Outsider’.

Since then, the producer has taken a short break before returning to the studio. DJ Shadow recently spoken to Radio 1 presenter Zane Lowe for his website, revealing that his new album is almost completed.

“I’m about half-way done and I will be sharing music in the next few months,” the producer said.

“With this record, I really want to make music I’m at peace with. If I say it’s a slight return, I only mean in the sense that I had a thread going with some of the records I was doing, so lets get back to that and see where that thread would be.”

Continuing the producer said: “I do consider it a return to form, but I hope there is nothing on it that sounds like anything I’ve done before, it’s just an aesthetic that returns.”

DJ Shadow has confirmed a handful of European dates this summer, with the turntablist set to perform live at Benicassim. The hip hop icon will be joined at the Spanish event by the likes of Kasabian, The Prodigy and Vampire Weekend.
