DJ Harrison Salutes His Heroes With Covers Record ‘Shades Of Yesterday’

Ranging from The Beatles to Madvillain...

DJ Harrison has shared new covers record ‘Shades Of Yesterday’.

The musician and producer goes back to his roots for the project, which is out now on Stones Throw. A kind of musical autobiography for the Richmond, Virginia artist, ‘Shades Of Yesterday’ – the title is a ‘Madvillainy’ reference – pilfers from his audio foundation.

So, expect some all-out bangers, and left-field choices. Recalling his childhood, he opts to cover the Charlie Brown soundtracking Vince Guaraldi cover piece ‘Lil Birdie’, while also covering everyone from Stevie Wonder to the Ohio Players.

At times its ultra smooth, at others DJ Harrison allowing his imagination to run riot. ‘IGY’ is included after his band supported Steely Dan legend Donald Fagen, while Tyler, the Creator introduced him to ‘L’Anthropofemme’ by French group Syntaxe.

Devilish enough to turn the Beatles’ iconic ‘Tomorrow Never Know’ into a home-made trip hop anthem, there’s something here for everyone.

Tune in now.
