Hollywood DJ AM died of an accidental drug overdose, according to a New York medical examiner.
Although the United States may well have invented house and techno, in recent times the country can hardly be called a hotbed of DJ talent. Which is why turntablists such as DJ AM are important.
Emerging from Los Angeles the DJ – real name Adam Goldstein – quickly established a name for himself. Touring with several huge bands DJ AM in particular struck up a friendship with Blink 182.
Forming a new duo with Travis Barker the pair were caught up in a horrific plane crash last year which left them in hospital for some time. However the two musicians recovered, with DJ AM returning to the decks.
Since then, the DJ had battled drug addiction and was preparing to film a program for MTV on his experiences. However DJ AM was found dead in his New York apartment earlier this month, with a cocktail of drugs discovered in his home.
Now the New York city medical examiner has stated that the DJ died from ‘a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs and cocaine’, reports The Associated Press.
The report was released on Tuesday (September 29th) and confirmed that DJ AM had cocaine, OxyContin, Benadryl and another drug used to cut cocaine in his system.
News of DJ AM’s death had shook the American music world with Blink 182 immediately cancelling a series of live appearances to mourn their friend.
