In one of the most exciting UK hip hop stories of the year it has been announced that Dizzee Rascal is to team up with rap pioneers The Sugarhill Gang.
Previous Mercury Award winner Rascal has spent the bulk of the summer surfing atop the singles charts with his track “Dance Wiv Me”, and the news is set to cap an incredible year for the artist. Sugarhill Gang rapper MC Master Gee first met the British star backstage at a London gig last year.
The two hit it off, and partied at a New York club a few months ago. Master Gee told BBC 6Music “He came to the States about two months ago. We ran into him when he invited us to come down to his club in New York and we went down there – wow, kick ass show”.
Dizzee Rascal’s style impressed the group, who recorded one of the first hip hop singles in “Rapper’s Delight”. A truly historic record it lit the flame for rap music and hip hop culture, helping spread them across the planet.
MC Master Gee was hugely complimentary towards the British star’s material saying “the tracks were crazy, they were spittin’ real hard and it’s in the works to do a song with him”.
There is no release date for the Dizzee Rascal / Sugarhill Gang collaboration.
