Dizzee Rascal has aired his views on the Brexit vote.
The grime pioneer turned pop phenomenon is set to appear on Beats 1 this weekend, a special guest of Pharrell on his OTHERtone show.
Pharrell couldn't resist probing Dizzee on the Brexit vote, with the country deciding to detonate its EU membership by a marginal percentage.
Dizzee laughed, and replied: "I think that f***ing name is annoying."
He then spoke at lengthy, saying: "My whole thing was, I don’t really understand what’s happening either, I took it lightly, like leave Europe? What do you mean? That could never happen. But during the come up to it, I was interested in why people thought what they thought, what are people’s thought processes, so let me not judge. We know that there’s racist people, it’s one other prejudice."
"All I’ve done from this whole thing is learn," he continued. "I’ve been careful not to try and be too opinionated on it, because like I said, every time I’ve asked a question on whatever side, I’ve learnt something I didn’t know. And every time something like this comes up, it just lets me know, rah, I don’t know as much as I think I do." The two spoke about racism within society, with Pharrell commenting: "I know what I thought when I saw it – you hate to see divisiveness win."
Dizzee later said: "People have got all sorts of problems because it boils down to insecurities or whatever. It is what it is, I don’t think the world’s changed, let’s be real, how did most of these nations get started in the first place? Raping and pillaging, that’s what it is, that’s what it’s been, that’s what it’s always been. The world is on some f***ery for a long time, that’s what it’s always been."
