DIVE Change Name, Stream Single

Welcome... DIIV

American indie pop newcomers DIVE have changed their name to DIIV, with their new single streaming online now.

Centring on Beach Fossils member Zachary Cole Smith, DIVE caused a stir last year. Fusing a glistening, shimmering sound with an aching sense of nostalgia, the few tracks ClashMusic have heard so far have left us mighty impressed.

Now DIVE have decided to change their name to DIIV. Seemingly, the alteration was made entirely unprompted, with Zachary Cole Smith indicating that he chose to alter the project’s title out of respect for a Belgian group of the same name.

“DIVE becomes DIIV. Out of respect for Dirk Ivins and the original Dive, this former DIVE has renamed itself” he explained in a note on Facebook. “We’ve not been contacted by Dirk Ivins or his lawyers, but the short of it is that I don’t really give a fuck what the band is called”.

“I originated this project in a bedroom with no internet and didn’t know if it would ever leave the bedroom. “DIVE”, the word, was an element of what inspired the project in its genesis, but we’ve outgrown the name and its associations. The band is the same, the music is the same, the future will always be the same. A name is nothing”.

Alongside this, the freshly re-named DIIV are streaming new cut ‘Doused’. Typically beautiful, you can listen to it below.
