Acclaimed Dj Diplo has been confirmed as the latest controller in Topman’s CTRL project and will be blogging at the Topman CTRL MySpace page as well as selecting three acts of his choice to play a gig.
Previous controllers have included Phoenix, Black Lips, Metronomy and Ladyhawke, with Gallows and Passion Pit taking control recently.
Diplo, known to his mum as Wesley Pentz, is the man behind the kuduro and Brazlian baile funk promoting Mad Decent records, was M.I.A.’s key collaborator on her ‘Arular’ and Kala’ albums, and this year launched Major Lazer with fellow Dj Switch, enjoying much praise with their ‘Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do’ album.
He’ll be choosing three acts to appear at a very special gig at London’ s Fabric venue on December 16th. Stay tuned to the Topman CTRL MySpace for details. The man himself is clearly excited about the task at hand revealing, “Being in control of the lineup is mad because I’m part of a new family in music. We aren’t rock, pop, electronic, underground or rap. My crew is this new generation and it’s everything, it’s cool to have them all in one spot. Shout to Topman!”.
You can get involved too. Each month Topman shines the spotlight on a different artist and gives them complete control (CTRL, get it?!) of their MySpace profile. The ‘Controller’ is then assigned the honour of curating and selecting three of their current favourite bands to play a gig that month. But it doesn’t stop there. Through blogging and the band’s very own multimedia ‘scrapbook,’ we are given exclusive access into the world and indeed mind of that chosen artist.
