Diplo has reflected on his relationship with M.I.A., and given his opinion on her Superbowl stunt.
A long time ago, Diplo and M.I.A. were one of the most powerful couples in the music industry. The producer’s global beats were matched to the London born singer’s politicised stance, resulting in some fantastic tracks.
All good things come to an end, though, with Diplo and M.I.A. going their separate ways. During an interview with Rolling Stone recently, the Florida based producer reflected on the relationship and his feelings towards the singer.
“I’m still a huge fan of her stuff,” the Florida producer explained. “I owe her a lot for what she did for me.”
However that doesn’t mean that Diplo has entirely forgotten about the break up. Sessions for ‘MAYA’ ended abruptly, with M.I.A. seemingly criticising the producer’s output.
“She didn’t really know what she was doing,” he said. “She was really abusive, telling me I wasn’t good enough or fast enough.”
Elsewhere, the producer was also asked about M.I.A.’s now notorious one fingered salute at the Superbowl. “It was kind of stupid. I think her being on that Madonna song is kind of lame, and she was trying to make up for that. That song is such a flop.”
The pair remain connected: both Diplo and M.I.A. are working on new books, which will be released by the same publishing house.
M.I.A. meanwhile, is concentrating on her new album. Due to be released via Mercury, the singer recently unveiled lead single ‘Bad Girls’ which came equipped with a Romain Gavras shot video.
