Leeds grunge types Dinosaur Pile Up have confirmed details of their debut album and an expansive new tour.
The Leeds music scene is deeply close knit. Seminal dance punks Mother Vulpine may have split in 2007, but the band’s legacy lives on with former members appearing in Sky Larkin, Pulled Apart By Horses and Dinosaur Pile Up.
Taking their name from a dodgy Hollywood moment in a ‘King Kong’ remake, Dinosaur Pile Up echo the ghosts of the grunge era. With their feet stuck firmly on distortion pedals, the band cite early Foo Fighters as a massive influence.
Earning a cult following with their explosive live performances, Dinosaur Pile Up entered the studio earlier this year. Signed to a tiny independent, the band have stuck by their DIY principles.
Forthcoming album ‘Growing Pains’ is a testament to this. Written in their rehearsal room in Leeds, the material was recorded with producer James Kenosha.
The result is a stunning rock powerhouse with plenty of rock hooks. A visceral power trio in the mould of Johnny Foreigner or Sky Larkin, the Leeds group want fans to be able to sing along to their music.
Frontman Matt Bigland said: “I know it sounds bent but I liked the idea of people to be able to sing along to the songs, even if they were singing about being hated or upset. I wanted to make a record that kicks people in the face whilst getting stuck in their head.”
Available on CD and vinyl, ‘Growing Pains’ will be preceded by the single ‘Birds And Planes’ on July 26th. Dinosaur Pile Up are also due to tour across the country this September, beginning with a date in York’s Stereo.
Finishing with a show in Crewe on October 1st, tickets for the tour are set to go on sale shortly.
