Legendary American oddball rock ‘n’ rollers Devo are set to release a new album – the band’s first in 19 years.
Formed in Akron, Ohio the group’s absurdist take on rock music has made them a highly influential group. Their irreverent take on the Rolling Stones’ classic ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ outlined their surrealist musical vision, ripping apart one of rock’s core texts.
The band released their Brian Eno produced debut album ‘Q:Are We Not Men? A:We Are Devo’ in 1978. A subsequent turn to the mainstream saw Devo score a semi-hit with ‘Whip It’, which raced up the Billboard charts in 1980.
The band last released an album with ‘Smooth Noodle Maps’ in 1990. Devo have been on hiatus for some time, but returned to active duty recently.
The new album follows the single ‘Watch Us Work It’ – the first new material by the group in 18 years.
Devo have been extremely busy of late. The band have scheduled a special concert for the SXSW music showcase in Austin, Texas, which will showcase their new material.
In addition to this, Devo have also agreed to perform their classic debut album as part of the ongoing ‘Don’t Look Back’ concerts. Devo will release their new album later this year.
Devo will play the following British date:
