Deto Black Proves She’s No Imitator On ‘Just Like Deto’

"I wanted to talk my shit..."

Nigerian artist Deto Black today shares new single ‘Just Like Deto’, her first solo release since ‘Drop Off’ last year. Over a grimy beat courtesy of producer Cadenza, Deto reclaims the narrative around her artistry, taking aim at the influencers and imitators co-opting her image.

A fashion maven, Deto Black has modelled for Diesel, JBL x Vivdendii and Mowalola x Beats, and collaborated with the likes of Mowalola, Yves Tumor, Shygirl, VTSS and TeeZee. In 2021, Deto released her debut project ‘Yung Everything’.

Speaking on Just Like Deto, Deto says: “I wanted to talk my shit a little bit because I feel like people have perceptions of me and I never really speak on it. I’ve seen me and my friends on multiple moodboards from magazine cover stories to celebrities to the regular girl on Instagram; the girlies love the vibes lol. Also I love Vita’s song ‘Vita Vita Vita’ and I really loved how she used her name in the song. I also wanted to help people who aren’t Yoruba in pronouncing my name correctly.”
