Depeche Mode To Hold Press Conference

Could a new album be on the way?

Depeche Mode are set to hold a press conference in Paris on October 23rd, sparking rumours of a new studio album.

It's probably one of the worst kept secrets in British music. Depeche Mode have spent the bulk of 2012 working on new material, with the band said to be focussing on a potential release date of 2013. Now the group have confirmed plans to hold a press conference in Paris.

Taking place on October 23rd, the event opens at 1:30pm and will be broadcast live online with Depeche Mode planning what the press release describes as "an exciting announcement". Earlier this year, Clash writer Mat Smith caught up with Dave Gahan to ask about the progress of new material.

"We've recorded probably close to twenty songs so far, and they're all starting to get in pretty good shape. We're now starting to whittle that down what's gonna be the record." Elsewhere, Clash asked the frontman about potential influences – including the blues sound of the Soul Savers project.

"I wouldn't dare to say that this is a blues record," he insisted, "but it's definitely influenced by the blues and at the same time underlined with a lot of hope within the music, and also lyrically. We get stuck in our ways a bit. I push all the time, much to the annoyance of the other guys sometimes, to keep things as raw as possible".
