The incoming album is titled ‘Memento Mori’ and is their 15th to date – on a more sombre note, it’s also their first without much-loved colleague Andrew ‘Fletch’ Fletcher.
The band’s first since 2017’s globally successful ‘Spirit’, it has its roots early in 2020 and draws on pandemic themes. Martin Gore comments: “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.”
A record framed by grief and survival, Dave Ghan adds: “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.”
Out in Spring 2023, Depeche Mode have also laid out plans for a huge international tour. The European leg opens in May 2023, with stops including the Stade de France in Paris, Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, Milan’s San Siro Stadium.
Depeche Mode will play one UK shows – at London’s Twickenham Stadium on June 17th.
Curiously, Primavera Sound in Barcelona is also mentioned; could Depeche Mode be headlining the 2023 event…?
‘Memento Mori’ will be released in Spring 2023.
