Jay-Z’s successor as executive vice president of Def Jam records Shakir Stewart has been found dead, with reports indicating that the industry figure took his own life.
Stewart became Def Jam’s vice president almost a year ago, succeeding multi-million selling rapper Jay-Z. In a glittering career, Stewart signed Beyonce to Hitco Music Publishing and was the A&R consultant at LaFace Records.
A statement from Def Jam reads “”L.A. Reid and all of us at Island Def Jam Music Group are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and colleague Shakir Stewart.”
Shakir Stewart was found dead on November 1st.
