Hackney trio deep tan have shared their wonderful new double A-side single.
The band's wonderfully subdued breakout single 'air' landed earlier this year, reminiscent of Warpaint's early releases of even shades of The xx.
Highly creative within a minimalist format, deep tan's new single showcases two different aspects to their songwriting.
'shimmer' matches icy shoegaze textures to a spider-like bass line, reminiscent of Young Marble Giants in its flecked grey melancholia.
The trio explain that the song is about “surface-level people with malice that runs deep. People who operate with cruel intentions, who mask their agenda with a pretty convincing, shiny veneer.”
On the flip you can find 'constant inconsistencies' and it's about the importance of a support network in these anxious time. deep tan add: “It’s a commonly felt thing, everyone has had someone where they’ve thought You love them, but where the fuck are they??”
Out now on key London tastemaker label Practise Music – home of Squid, Osquello – you can check out both sides of the single below.
Catch deep tan at London's The Dome on December 3rd, supporting Crumb.
