Declan McKenna has shared new single ‘Mulholland’s Dinner And Wine’.
The songwriter is set to have a massive year, with 2024 boasting his third studio album, and his biggest UK headline shows to date. Out on February 9th, incoming LP ‘What Happened To The Beach?’ is typically eclectic, veering from style to style.
New single ‘Mulholland’s Dinner And Wine’ has a kind of warped, cartoonish feel to the lyrics, with Declan somehow both disguising and revealing his intent at the same time.
The neat indie melodies carry pop possibility, and there’s also something quietly anthemic about the chorus. Oh, and the title is a reference to an offie he once say…
Says Declan:
“Mulholland’s Dinner and Wine was written with Gianluca Buccellati as a kind of weird, warped story about a cartoon-y criminal duo, and the origins of the title come from an off-licence in the UK, but it became entangled with Mulholland drive in LA. The lyrics came from observations driving around the hills there and conversations at strange, hip parties.”
Tune in now.
