Declan McKenna will release new album ‘What Happened To The Beach?’ on February 9th.
The songwriter teased his return this summer, sharing the symphony-lined track ‘Sympathy’ to striking effect. A full studio album follows, one that unlocks certain facets of his emotional vistas, and propels him to further maturity.
Out on February 9th, ‘What Happened To The Beach?’ is Declan McKenna’s third album to date, and stems from sessions alongside producer Gianluca Buccellati, whose previous projects include Arlo Parks and Lana Del Rey.
Available to pre-order now, the album is trailed by all-new single ‘Nothing Works’. Born of frustration, the song opens out to euphoria, the sign of someone laying claim to their own life.
Declan McKenna comments…
‘Nothing Works’ came out of the frustration of feeling boxed in and tied to expectation, but it is a euphoric tune, at its core it’s a celebration of being true to yourself.
In the track, I’m kind of mocking the idea that I’d just take advice that neglects my own intuition, and I often feel like nothing works when you’re trying to match norms or expectations, because you can never please everyone, but if you trust your gut and your own motivations in any aspect of life, the parameters for feeling good in yourself are much simpler and more powerful.
Tune in now.
