Dream pop duo deary return with ‘Sleepsong’.
The duo will release their new EP on November 17th, matching beautiful sonic tapestries to some heart-pulling lyricism. Headlining St Pancras Old Church on November 23rd, deary seem to be impressing with each passing song.
Out now, ‘Sleepsong’ is a message in a bottle, a note of support that seems perfectly sculpted. Penned in the wake of a friend’s struggle with grief, it merges opaque sonics, enchanting effects, and the gentle evocative curl of the lyric.
Singer Dottie expands:
“‘Sleepsong’ was written for a friend who was struggling with grief. It’s difficult to find the right words to support someone through something so raw and unstoppable. Writing it helped me through my own struggles with grief, becoming a comfort that I didn’t know I needed.”
“The track was originally a solemn instrumental piece without any discernible rhythm,” adds guitarist Ben. “Once Dottie explained the meaning, it became clear that we needed to find a bit of life inside it. ‘Sleepsong’ is possibly my favourite song on the EP, it’s the perfect example of what we’re trying to create sonically and emotionally.”
A real pearl of a song, ‘Sleepsong’ comes equipped with a video by Chris Tomsett (aka Innerstrings) – watch it below.
