Dean Wareham Announces New Album ‘That’s The Price Of Loving Me’

It's out on March 28th...

Seminal American songwriter Dean Wareham will release new album ‘That’s The Price Of Loving Me’ this year.

The songwriter has a deep catalogue, ranging from three vastly influential albums with Galaxie 500, his 90s success with Luna, and the duo Dean & Britta.

Returning to solo duties, new album ‘That’s The Price Of Loving Me’ lands in a few months – and it features an album friend.

New York left-field figure Kramer supplied the less-is-more production on those famed Galaxie 500 records, and – for the first time in 34 years – he’s behind the desk on a Dean Wareham record.

“Kramer insisted that I play all the guitars on this record,” says Dean. “And we worked quickly. Kramer believes that two takes yield more treasure than twenty, and he always seems to have the song mapped out in his head right away.”

The record – which lands on March 28th – features eight new tracks and two covers (Nico and Mayo Thompson); recorded in just six days in the Eagle Rock neighbourhood of Los Angeles, Dean was joined by wife and long-time collaborator Britta Phillips, Anthony LaMarca (The War on Drugs) and Roger Brogan to lend a hand.

The first single ‘You Were The Ones I Had To Betray’ is out now, a succinct, wiry, minimalist piece of indie rock that ripples with electricity. He comments…

I wrote this at the last minute, thinking about how love and friendship seem to actually invite betrayal. I didn’t really anticipate where the song would end up musically; it was transformed when Gabe Noel added the cello arrangement in the studio.”

Tune in now.
