Toronto’s premiere party label Play Records knew where to spice up a new release, with Deadmau5 providing some stunning production.
Long regarded as a pivotal dance imprint, Play has been providing forward thinking electronic music for some time now. For those who have yet to experience the distinctive Play sound, though, forthcoming single ‘All You Ever Want’ could be a fantastic introduction.
The label’s boss of sorts Melleny Melody laid down the bare bones of the track, before roping in singer Billy Newton Davis to add some vocals. Well known in his native Canada, Davis has won a Juno award – the Canadian equivalent of the Brits.
Perhaps best known for his mainstream hits, Billy Newton Davis has enjoyed a career revival thanks to the Play Records crew. Davis’ voice adorns the new single, with the original version becoming an underground hit in Canada last year.
In order to break the track internationally the label has roped in producer Deadmau5 to add some of his inimitable skills. The producer has become well known thanks to his stunning live show, appearing with a mouse mask before startled clubbers.
The new edit is a thing of magic, which could well go on to soundtrack the summer. Not content to stop with one mix, Deadmau5 has provided additional remixes to keep listeners guessing.
Other producers roped in on remix duties include J Tease, Jackson Q, Nino Anthony and many more. Billy Newton Davis, meanwhile, is working on his new album which is due to surface on Play later this year.
Billy Newton Davis vs Deadmau5 are set to release their single ‘All You Ever Want’ on June 1st.
