Dead Weather Discuss Their Origins

Much discussed new supergroup The Dead Weather have produced a new video explaining their origins.

Jack White likes to stay busy. After a lengthy tour with The Raconteurs many expected the Detroit guitarist to take a rest. But instead the songwriter simply launched an entirely new project with some superstar friends.

The Dead Weather announced themselves to the world earlier this year. Comprised of Jack White and some friends from The Kills, The Greenhornes and Queens Of The Stone Age the band recently released their debut album ‘Horehound’.

Produced by Jack White himself, the album was recorded in his Third Man studios in Nashville. The band recently played a short UK tour, completing a number of special dates. Late announcements for Glastonbury, The Dead Weather played a sensational set at Worthy Farm.

Clash recently caught up with the band for an intimate chat. Travelling out to their Nashville headquarters, you can read the full interview in the current issue of Clash Magazine. However if you can’t wait that long, we’ve got excerpts from the interview HERE!

The Dead Weather have become one of the most talked about bands on the planet, blending a superstar line up with some sensational material. Synth driven and much heavier than anything Jack White has done before, ‘Horehound’ has been widely acclaimed.

A new video from the group explains their intentions. Titled ‘The Dead Weather – their oral history and future plans’ the video intends to give “an explanation and apology from the band”.

The footage opens with doomy horror movie style organ music played by The Greenhornes’ Matt Lawrence before Jack White explains the band’s origins. After losing his voice while on tour with The Racontuers the guitarist switched to drums for a series of jams with The Kills’ singer Alison Mosshart.

However things begin to take a turn for the bizarre, with Jack White being asked “if someone is dying do you tell them to go toward the light, or away from the light?”.

The Dead Weather’s debut album ‘Horehound’ is available now. Watch the unusual video below…
