David Lynch is set to release his new album ‘Crazy Clown Time’ on November 7th.
One of the most influential film makers to ever pick up a camera, David Lynch has always made liberal use of music. The soundtrack to his cult film ‘Eraserhead’ contained some original work, while 2006’s ‘Inland Empire’ featuring several tracks penned by the director.
So when David Lynch announced that he was working on a full length album, it shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise. Released two tracks earlier this year, the director whetted appetites with some unusual songwriting.
Now the film maker has confirmed plans for a full length album. ‘Crazy Clown Time’ is set to be released on November 7th, with the album due to be available on several formats: a Collector’s Edition CD; iTunes exclusive with video; and a double LP set with bonus tracks.
Given the experimental nature of David Lynch’s film work, the new album could literally sound like anything. In a press quotes, the director hints at what could potentially lie within ‘Crazy Clown Time’:
“The love of experimenting with sound and music is what was driving this boat. All of the songs on the album started as a jam. The jams eventually found a form and lyrics appeared.”
Continuing, David Lynch explained that ‘Crazy Clown Time’ was recorded over a period of several months at his own Asymmetrical Studio with engineer Dean Hurley, who contributes guitar and drums to several songs.
Apparently a “modern blues” the material saw Lynch learn as he went along. “There were so many accidents; this album should be in the hospital.”
Amongst the guest musicians on the album is Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O who appears on ‘Pinky’s Dream’.
