David Byrne Working With St Vincent

New album in the works

Legendary American musician David Byrne has revealed that he is working on new music with St. Vincent.

David Byrne has always been fond of collaboration. Even as lead singer with Talking Heads the singer released an album with Brian Eno, with his solo career littered with co-writing credits and guest singers.

Currently preparing to release a new concept album with Fatboy Slim, David Byrne has just published a new blog post revealing that he is working on material with St. Vincent.

The collaboration has been in the works for some time, with the pair completing up to eight tracks. The pair recently performed together in New York with David Byrne saying:

“Our collaboration was partly inspired by the Dirty Projectors/Björk thing at Housing Works many months ago that we both attended. We agreed to do something similar there, though there is no timetable. Annie (her real name) has been on tour, on and off, for quite a while, so the collaboration proceeds in fits and starts. It was a good idea of hers to get at least this song up to speed, as it gave us a deadline and allows us to see where problems and musical issues might lie.”

Elsewhere, David Byrne revealed that he has been working with David Sitek on some new material. The singer also mused on the nature of collaboration, and recalled his recent collaboration with Brian Eno.

“Brian had a slew of tracks on the shelf, tracks that seemed to want to become songs (as opposed to ambient pieces, or film scores), but he was unhappy with his own attempts at completing them. So, from his point of view, he had nothing much to lose by passing them to me — they were just gathering dust anyway, and unless I did something horrendous (which we agreed he could veto), it was a win-win situation.”
