Dave Rowntree will release new solo album ‘Radio Songs’ on January 20th.
The Blur drummer and local councillor broke cover earlier this year, sharing a rare solo document. ‘London Bridge’ marked a new point in his career, and it presages a full album length work from the English artist.
His debut as a songwriter, ‘Radio Songs’ is out on January 20th via Cooking Vinyl, featuring 10 brand new tracks. Produced by Leo Abrahams, it’s led by new single ‘Devil’s Island’ which seems to tackle the British Right’s dislocation between recent history and brutal reality.
He explains: “I grew up in the UK in the 1970s and while there were definitely good points about the decade, I also remember how toxic it could be. The country was deeply divided, and racism and misogyny were the norm. The economy was a basket case, and at one point we had to be bailed out by the IMF [International Monetary Fund]. However, listening to some people, you’d think it was a golden age to which we should yearn to return.”
Dave Rowntree adds: “This song is a note to self, to remind me how far we’ve come in forty years.”
