Foo Fighters genial frontman Dave Grohl has spoken about the first time he took the drug acid.
As drummer with Nirvana, Dave Grohl was one third of a group who helped alter the American rock landscape forever. His drumming style was an inspiration to millions, who heard the crack at the beginning of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and thought “that’ll do me!”.
After the tragic death of singer Kurt Cobain in 1994, Grohl retreated to his home studio to work on music. Few expected the larger than life drummer to succeed, let alone on the vast commercial scale he has managed.
The band have gone on hiatus to let members rest. Dave Grohl has been giving spoken word performances recently, and when chatting with an audience at Hollywood’s Largo Theater revealed details about his first acid experience, Rolling Stone reports.
“I knew that’s a fuckin’ gnarly commitment. It’s like, nine hours,” Grohl revealed.
“I saw this percolator from, like, the Dick Van Dyke show in the 50s and all I could think was, ‘coffee!’”
“So I take it down, plug it in, don’t put anything in it, and then, poof! I was thrown to the ground, in altered states, out of my mind!”
“I was out for, like, two days. Good blotter, dude.”
Grohl spoke on a range of subjects at the event, which featured a number of other guest speakers.
