Dave Grohl Criticised Following Taylor Swift Comments

Oh, Dave...

Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl is facing criticism following some comments about Taylor Swift.

It’s a colossal weekend for live music in London, with two enormous acts touching down in the same city. In West London, Taylor Swift is packing out Wembley Stadium – the home of English football – across successive nights with her Eras tour. Over in East London, Foo Fighters are playing at London Stadium, built during the Olympics and now used by West Ham United.

Foo Fighters were about to play ‘Statues’ when Dave Grohl mentioned Taylor Swift was also playing on the same night – to which the crowd began to boo.

Chuckling, Dave Grohl said: “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.”

“So we like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour.’ We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few fucking errors as well. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live. What? Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ‘n’ roll music, right? You came to the right fucking place.”

Taylor Swift fans across the globe were quick to condemn the genial frontman, often dubbed ‘the nicest man in rock’.

One fan wrote: “Dave Grohl undermining a woman’s talent and success was not on my 2024 bingo card, but here we are! This is SO incredibly lame and embarrassing of you…”

Another added: “Honestly, it’s hilarious that Dave Grohl spouted off about Taylor’s artistry only for Paul McCartney and Jon Bon Jovi to show up at her concert the very next night.”

Dave Grohl’s comments are odd because he’s been supportive of Taylor Swift before – he made encouraging comments during her battle to regain her masters, while his famed story of how Taylor “saved him” while he was asked to play at a private Paul McCartney concert has gone viral many times over.

We’re tempted to see this one as clumsy phrasing, and an attempt at self-deprecating humour that went wrong.

The Eras tour continues regardless – read our report from the first night at Wembley Stadium.
