Depeche Mode vocalist Dave Gahan and Kurt Uenala unite to cover ‘Chains’ by The Raveonettes.
The Danish group’s debut album ‘Whip It On’ recently turned 20, and it remains a deliciously evil slice of electro-driven rock ‘n’ roll. To celebrate, The Raveonettes reached out to some friends, curating the new covers album ‘The Raveonettes presents: Rip It Off’.
A cover from trentemøller and DíSA launched the project, but this new cover features a bona fide legend of British electronic music.
Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan steps into the booth, covering ‘Chains’ alongside producer Kurt Uenala. It’s a brilliant pairing, their take on the song seething with venom and a sense of doomed, fatalistic romance.
Dave Gahan comments…
“I was just happy to be asked to do it and come up with a twist on the tragic characters in the song. She’s a little psychedelic and a little rock’n’roll.”
The Raveonettes previously toured alongside Depeche Mode, and were delighted to let that connection continue. “We’re honoured to have a legend like Dave Gahan interpret one of our songs. It means the world to us. We’ve toured with Depeche Mode a bunch of times and we love and adore them”.
Tune in now.
Depeche Mode’s new album ‘Memento Mori’ will be released on March 17th.
