Dance World Shuns Ten Walls Following Homophobic Rant

Lithuanian producer loses host of high profile appearances...

Lithuanian producer Ten Walls posted a disgusting homophobic rant on Facebook over the weekend, in which he compared homosexuality to paedophilia.

Amongst the more offensive passages was a reference to the producer's first show in Ireland: “One of my first gigs in Ireland, on my way to [my] hotel I saw a church with a fence decorated with hundreds of baby shoes. Naturally I wondered why? Unfortunately a priest’s lie for many years was uncovered when children were massively raped. Unfortunately the people of other breed continue to do it and everyone knows it but does nothing.”

Elsewhere, the producer referred to “the good 90s… these people of different breed where fixed”.

Appallingly offensive, the rant was since deleted and replaced with an apology: "Last week I wrote a Facebook post that was wrong and completely out of character and the result was a badly written post that was unacceptable. It was never my intention to offend anyone. I’m really saddened by everything that has happened and I would like to apologise to everyone I’ve let down, especially to my friends in the gay community, and my fans."

"I now need to take a break and have cancelled my upcoming shows."

But has the producer actually "cancelled" any of his upcoming shows? As the day has progressed, more and more promoters are making their voices heard, insisting that discrimination of any kind has no place in electronic music.

One by one, the vast majority of Ten Walls' future appearances have been ditched, with everyone from PITCH Festival to Sonar expressing their disgust and disappointment in Ten Walls' views.

Coda Music – the producer's booking agency – has dropped the Lithuanian artist, explaining in a statement: "Coda Music Agency condemns all forms of discrimination based on race, religion or sexual orientation. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and to represent a hugely diverse roster of artists."

Perhaps the simplest – and most effective – means of protest against Ten Walls' views goes to Optimo's JD Twitch who posted the following picture.

And that will be the last time Ten Walls' name is ever mentioned on this website.
