Glasgow based multi-limbed indie rockers Dananananaykroyd have suffered a set back after singing-drummer John Baillie Jr broke his elbow.
Dananananaykroyd’s live shows are already the stuff of legend, so much so that the band’s actual material is also dismissed. Which is, of course, completely wrong. On record or playing in your living room the band ROCK pure and simple.
Debut album ‘Hey Everyone!’ was released earlier this year, a titanic slice of fight-pop that can put a smile on the unhappiest of commuters. Just slip this album on your iPod and grin your way through the tube strikes.
The band are preparing to release their new single ‘Some Dresses’ soon, but have been dealt a set back. Dananananaykroyd are currently touring in Australia, where part time drummer and part time singer John Baillie Jr has wound up in hospital.
Performing live in Sydney last night (July 30th) the singer appears to have fallen offstage just two songs into the set. Singer Calum Gunn told Australian magazine Triple J that he still wasn’t sure what had actually happened.
“The details still aren’t really very clear. John, I think he just kind of came off the stage a bit funny and has done something pretty bad to his arm. The latest I’ve heard is that he’s taken a bit of his elbow bone off.”
Sadly, Baillie was hurt so badly that the show had to be called off. Due to his dual role as drummer and singer the band’s live sound revolves heavily around the musician, who had to be taken to hospital.
“We couldn’t really go on without John and so we stopped the show and got him medical attention as soon as possible. There was a doctor in the audience which was really cool. Kind of cliched ‘is there a doctor here?’ thing actually worked. She looked after John for a while until the ambulance arrived.”
Calum Gunn added that he wasn’t sure how long the band would be out of action for. “It all depends on how John’s arm gets I suppose. We’ve not really had the chance to regroup just yet. Unfortunately we can’t obviously play in Melbourne tonight which is a total shame. We’re just sad that we’re not able to play.”
Dananananaykroyd are set to return to the UK soon for a series of tour dates, including an appearance at Scotland’s Belladrum festival. It is not known if these will be affected.
