Former Blur star Damon Albarn has revealed details of a new collaborative project with Jamie Hewlett, which is set to take in both film and stage concepts.
The duo previously worked on both the Gorillaz group and the opera “Monkey: Journey To The West”, and have lived together in the past. Visual artist Jamie Hewlett adds a strong cinematic element to Albarn’s work, and the two are responsible for some of the most forward thinking groups in Britain.
In an interview with The Observor Hewlett revealed that Albarn has already written around 70 songs for the project, currently titled “Carousel”. Going on, he explained that “Carousel” is already a bigger proposition than their previous opera, stating that “it’s sort of like a film but not with one narrative story. There’s many stories, told around a bigger story, set to music, and done in live action, animation, all different styles.”
