Damon Albarn On Blur

"We've all got to get on with our lives now"

Damon Albarn has spoken about the recent Blur re-union admitting that he has not thought about the group since they last performed together.

Blur’s re-union was one of the year’s most heart warming success stories. Putting aside their differences four long term friends took to the stage together for the first time in almost a decade. The results? Spectacular.

Massive re-union shows at Hyde Park were followed by a headline slot at Glastonbury. Pausing for a moment onstage, it seemed as though singer Damon Albarn was almost overcome by the emotion of the occasion.

Completing their comeback with a show at T In The Park, Blur almost had to pull out with Graham Coxon discharging himself from hospital after suffering food poisoning.

Now in a new interview Damon Albarn has revealed that he does not think about his old group. “It was stadiums and everybody singing and very euphoric,” Albarn told The Guardian. “Then after the last gig in Scotland I got on the train and left it all behind. That’s it, I haven’t thought about it since.”

Continuing, the singer claimed: “I loved every second of it but then when it had finished it was like, we’ve all got to get on with our lives now.”

Instead Damon Albarn is looking ahead to his next project. The songwriter is working with Gorillaz on their new album, with rumoured guests including The Horrors and legendary comic book writer Alan Moore.

Speaking to The Guardian, Albarn claimed that Gorillaz was an attempt to provide an alternative to industry produced pop music. “That is why I do Gorillaz records, and it’s why I’m making this one the most pop record I’ve ever made in many ways, but with all my experience to try and at least present something that has got depth.”

“I think pop music is a great place to get new ideas across… The only danger is knowing when you are doing good work, how many people might be affected by it… and you try not to become too knowing, which is really hard to avoid.”

Gorillaz are set to release their new album next year.
