Damon Albarn has issued a full apology to Taylor Swift.
The English songwriter is in Los Angeles this week for a live show, sitting down with the LA Times for a full interview.
Discussing his catalogue and recent work, Damon Albarn was probed on what attributes make a great songwriter.
Somewhat oddly, the conversation deviated to Taylor Swift, who he believes "doesn't write her own songs".
Taylor Swift spotted this, and hit back on Twitter labelling the unfounded criticism as "fucked up".
@DamonAlbarn I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really fucked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW. https://t.co/t6GyXBU2Jd

An internet storm ensued, with fans, and collaborators such as Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner chiming in.
Damon Albarn then issued a rare tweet, apologising directly to Taylor Swift; "I totally agree with you. I had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand."
