Hotly tipped Glasgow producer Dam Mantle has spoken about the benefits of isolation in a new interview.
Glasgow isn’t as remote from London as it used to be. Train times are being shortened each year, with regular flights bringing both cities closer together.
The recent explosion of Caledonian dance talent has not gone un-noticed by the Big Smoke. DJs such as Jackmaster are regular fixtures in London, where the dance scene has gone crazy for the likes of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie.
Joining the new wave of Scottish dance talent is Dam Mantle whose debut EP ‘The Grey’ was released last month.
Speaking to the BBC, the producer seemed to almost revel in isolation. “My favourite reason from leaving the house is to go and buy records,” he explained. “Just buying records in charity shops – that’s how I spent most of my Saturdays.”
Pretty much like the ClashMusic team, really.
Continuing, Dam Mantle argued that he benefits from isolation. “When I can make something at the best of my ability it’s on my own,” he told the BBC.
“Isolation really is where it comes from – late nights, staying up overnight being surrounded by what I love. Fiddling and being dazed – getting involved in a tiny piece of sound and folding it out into something.”
“I guess I could be considered a bedroom producer.”
Dam Mantle’s new EP ‘The Grey’ is out now.
