Paris-based artist Crystal Murray has today announced the release of her debut album ‘SAD LOVERS & GIANTS’, out later this year.
The album announce comes with new wave-inflected single ‘STARMANIAK’, a sonic rejoinder for women who’ve been systematically demeaned and mistreated. Produced by Grammy-nominated produced Kyu Speed (Amaarae, Kojey Radical, Babyface), Murray ups the ante on a track that pulses with bare-boned truths and affirmations.
Speaking on the single, Murray states: “I wanted to highlight the struggles and challenges that many women face in today’s society, particularly the pervasive issue of being over-sexualised, disrespected, and mistreated. My acknowledgment of the toxicity that some individuals can perpetuate is important. I’m talking about my own experiences but also shedding light on broader societal issues that need to be addressed.”
The 11-track ‘SAD LOVERS & GIANTS’, which features the propulsive first single ‘PAYBACK’, doesn’t gloss over mature themes; it’s honest, raw and unadulterated. “I’m moving away from personas, to make a clear statement that this is me,” says Murray. “My music can be tragic and theatrical, cinematic and massive, but it is all me.”
