crushed Tap Into 90s Dream Pop On New Single ‘coil’

Their debut EP 'Extra Life' is incoming...

Stateside duo crushed have shared new single ‘coil’.

The pair have great depth of songwriting experience, with Bre Morell and Shaun Durkan boasting releases as members of Temple Of Angels and Weekend. This new project wipes the slate clean, however; explicitly direct and unashamedly pop, they blend left-field aspects with a willingness to communicate in an open, melodic fashion.

Debut EP ‘Extra Life’ is incoming, led by gorgeous new single ‘coil’. A dream-pop fantasia, it envelopes those ideas into a 90s leaning production palette, one that recalls groups like Velocity Girl or Mazzy Star – the soundtrack to Clueless, basically.

Out now, ‘coil’ is an intriguing release, infectious and difficult to shake off. Shaun Durkan says:

“‘coil’ is about the mixed feelings caused by reflecting on a toxic relationship, and wondering if you’ve truly done enough work and are ready to leave it all behind. Nostalgia is dangerous, and can make even a really damaging and painful period of life seem beautiful and appealing.”

“We wrote ‘coil’ May 2022, right around the time I had hit two years of sobriety. To me personally, it’s about my relationship with drugs and how the highs and lows of active addiction permanently change how you see the world around you. It’s about wondering if you can untether yourself from those skewed memories, see active addiction for what it truly was, and move forward. I think all good love songs can be read as drug songs and vice versa.”

Tune in now.
