In an astonishing revelation Courtney Love has revealed that the £360 million left by her husband Kurt Cobain has been stolen.
Kurt Cobain led Nirvana from underground obscurity to the mainstream, but the journey left a huge mental toll on the singer. Suffering from intense stomach pains and attempting to recover from a heroin addiction, Cobain killed himself almost exactly fifteen years ago.
The singer left his fortune to his wife and young daughter, but according to Love this has been stolen. Private investigators hired by the former Hole singer found that the majority of the money has been fraudulently invested into real estate by unidentified people using the family’s social security numbers.
Courtney Love’s lawyer Rhonda J Holmes is now reported to be taking steps to recover some of the money.
“I have never seen such greed and moral turpitude. This case is going to make Bernard Madoff look warm and fuzzy,” she told the New York Post, referencing the disgraced US financier who is facing prosecution for fraud.
“We will be filing civil cases…within the next 30 days. There are many, many millions missing. We’ve only been able to track down $30 million, but there is more. And then there is the real estate.”
According to Holmes, Love has only recently noticed the money is missing. “Courtney noticed the money was gone when there wasn’t any left. It’s no secret she struggled with substance abuse issues, but in the last year she’s taken a more serious approach to sobriety, and started noticing things were wrong.”
The case is ongoing.
