Grunge icon Courtney Love has revealed that she is planning to sell off her stake in Kurt Cobain’s legacy.
Married for just three years, Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain became one of the most recognisable couples on the planet. The pair was deeply intertwined, with the Nirvana singer frequently praising her to the press.
Tragically taking his own life in 1994, Courtney Love has now lived fifteen years without her husband. The Hole singer has endured some tough times recently, and has now revealed that she plans to sell off Cobain’s songwriting catalogue.
Speaking to The Scotsman, Courtney Love explained that she believed the money was “cursed”. She might have a point – last year the singer claimed that huge amounts had been illegally removed from her bank account.
“I’m thinking about selling off all of Kurt’s publishing,” she says. “All of the rights, everything. It’s not a financial decision; it’s an emotional one.”
“He was the best friend I’ve ever had, but Kurt and I were only married for three years, and now I need to have my own life. I’m always ‘the widow’ and that drives me nuts. That money has been cursed since the day it started to come in.”
Continuing, Courtney Love explained that she was also driven by a desire to seek her own independence. “It’s also that it’s not really my money” she revealed. “I don’t want Kurt Cobain to buy me shoes anymore. I want to buy my own shoes – lots of them.”
Meanwhile, Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan appears to have ended his Twitter fued with Courtney Love. The frontman’s latest updates include: “Actually, happiness IS: to thine own Self be true + a chocolate vegan milkshake!”
Hole’s new album ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ is due to be released soon.
