Grunge icon Courtney Love has lost custody of her daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
Rising to fame through her band Hole, Courtney Love came to embody the more feminine elements of the grunge movement. Ferociously outspoken the singer attracted as much praise as she did criticism.
However since the death of her husband Kurt Cobain in 1994 the singer has struggled to keep her life together. Continual problems with substance abuse have put her career on the slide, with Courtney Love struggling to keep her finances together.
Earlier this year the singer claimed that Kurt Cobain’s wealth had been stolen from her. Seemingly lurching from crisis to crisis the singer has now lost custody of her daughter Fances Bean Cobain.
Court papers published online suggest that Courtney Love has lost guardianship of her daughter. American website TMZ claims that 17 year old Frances Bean Cobain is now being cared for by Kurt Cobain’s mother Wendy O’Connor and his sister Kimberly Dawn Cobain.
The papers were apparently filed by the Superior Court Of California on Friday (December 11th). The orders give guardianship of Frances Bean Cobain to the two women, who will be in charge of her financial well being as well as taking control of her life in a personal capacity.
The guardians have not, however, been granted control over the trust fund established for Frances Bean after her father’s death.
Courtney Love’s lawyer told TMZ that the singer realises that O’Connor will take care of her daughter. “Courtney wants to say she loves her daughter and she’s the most important thing in her life”.
