An almost uniquely British institution, the Christmas number one is a chance for the entire family to sit down and debate the merits of pop music.
Sure, it may have lost its lustre somewhat, but the Christmas number one remains a fabled position, reserved for the great, the good and (occasionally) the downright dreadful of the pop world.
This year, all bets are off. Following almost a decade of domination by X Factor winners, the past few years have seen campaigns propel the likes of Military Wives, the Justice Collective and more to number one.
So perhaps Ed Harcourt really could grab hold of 2014's Christmas number one. The singer's new track 'The Way That I Live' has been chosen to appear in Burberry's new advert, featuring none other than Romeo Beckham.
Launched in a blaze of publicity earlier this week, it's set to be one of the festive season's most high profile campaigns. With 'The Way That I Live' playing a prominent role, it could well propel Ed Hartcourt to the top of pop's festive tree.
Time will tell… check out the campaign below.
