Contour will release his new album ‘Take Off From Mercy’ on November 1st.
The artist has an inquisitive sonic sensibility, with each album coming to represent a distinct world. Now aligned to key label Mexican Summer, Contour’s new work finds the songwriter shaking it up once more.
Rooting himself in the guitar, a spell working with the instrument found Contour’s artistry shifting. Rediscovering his love of the six string, he reconfigured his role as an artist – taking inspiration in the myth of the lone bluesman.
“It immediately got me thinking about the itinerant Southern bluesman,” he says. “The guitar as your only companion while traveling, the instrument as a tool to document your own story and carry on generational tales and traditions.”
Working with the likes of Saul Williams, Mndsgn and co-producer Omari Jazz, sessions brought the album into life over a period of months.
Two new songs are out now, displaying the contrasting emotional shades of the record – the buoyancy of ‘Theresa’ and ‘Gin Rummy’.
