Constant Follower Conjures Harsh Beauty On ‘The Smile You Send Out Returns To You’

Scottish songwriter Constant Follower has shared his new album ‘The Smile You Send Out Returns To You’ in full.

Real name Stephen McAll, the musician’s work explores some darker aspects of his life, but it’s always shot through with light, and empathy. Previously gaining a number of plaudits – including a nomination at the SAY Award – Constant Follower’s new album moves between his Stirling base and Austin, Texas.

A song cycle of recovery and transcendence, ‘The Smile You Send Out Returns To You’ allows Constant Follower to be guided by his instincts, while also sketching in some of the finer details.

Moving with purpose, he comments: “The way that I write is very, very solitary. I sit down with a guitar and a blank sheet of paper, and I start singing. The way songs come to me is almost as though you’re driving down a country road at night in the dark, and you can kind of see where you’re going, but you don’t exactly know. It’s like you’re being guided.”

Out now through Last Night From Glasgow, the record is leaving a deep impression on all who stumble across its path. Check it out below, or catch Constant Follower at Glasgow’s Music From Big Blue on March 16th.
