War Child’s charity show in the Shepherd’s Bush Empire last night (February 18th) was a huge success with Coldplay, The Killers and more uniting to help the charity.
Despite being nominated for four awards, Coldplay failed to win any at the Brit Awards before rushing to play the War Child gig. The band are long term supporters of the charity, and thanked the organisers throughout their set.
Joined onstage by U2’s Bono The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, the group played a stunning set which helped alleviate their disappointment at not winning any awards.
Singer Chris Martin introduced Take That by saying “we’ve just got back from Japan, lost all the BRITs, it’s been a shit day frankly, but it’s going to get better, please welcome Mr Gary Barlow!”
The Killers also played a short set, and Brandon Flowers was keen to pay tribute to the British group.
“Thank you for having us, we’re so honoured to be part of this, War Child has done so many wonderful things,” Flowers told the crowd. “It’s great to be partnered with Coldplay. I remember when I first saw the video for ‘Yellow’ they were a real inspiration it made me think we had a real chance, so we’re honoured to be here with them.”
The new ‘War Child: Heroes’ album is out now and contains contributions from Duffy, Hot Chip and many more.
