Officially the biggest selling band of the year, Coldplay have announced they will return in September 2009 for a UK stadium tour.
The band will play three gigantic shows, at Manchester Crickets Ground, Wembley Stadium and the 60,000 capacity Hampden Park Stadium in Glasgow, with tickets set to go on-sale this Friday.
The Clash cover stars have been hitting the headlines of late, with Chris Martin declaring he would retire at the age of 33 – in just two years’ time (more here) and announcing their plans to follow Oasis by selling out Kenbworth, only to later admit a show (at the ground) “Just wasn’t possible. So we’re having to think of something else.” With the announcement of these massive shows, Coldplay don’t quite appear ready to retire just yet.
Update: according to the official Wembley Stadium website, Jay-Z will provide support as a “special guest” of the band.
Tickets for the concerts will go on-sale this Friday, 28th November at 9.30 AM. Coldplay will play :
Manchester Old Trafford Cricket Ground (September 12)
Glasgow Hampden Park (16)
London Wembley Stadium (19)
