Some people are born happy, some people gain happiness as life goes on.
Others, though, never quite find happiness, lurching around the darkness for that fateful light switch.
The new single from Coach & Ref – Bleu and Daple – focusses on that search for happiness, with the electronic pairing working alongside Mike Taylor.
Exuberent, unstoppably optimistic, it's about making that final choice to simply be happy. Mike Taylor explains:
"'Decisions' is a song that answers a question people ask me all the time 'Why are you so damn happy?' and the answer for me is: 'I choose to be so damn happy!' It’s as simple as that. Of course, no human can be in a great mood all the time but I think happiness is more than an emotion, I think it’s something deeper than that."
"I choose to go through life focusing on the positive. It’s not an easy thing to do but it forces me to identify and articulate internally what happiness is and if it's even possible for me to achieve it. Once I was able to define what happiness was for me it made it so much easier to love others and to be loved by others. So when I say “I made the decision to be happy…” what I am really saying is that I decided to go on a quest to find it."
Coach & Ref producer Bleu says of the production process: "…we went into this session telling Mike that all the tracks we had at the point were pretty moody, and we needed something 'feel good'… I remember about 1/2 way through the session Mike said: 'I hope you meant that, 'cause you're gettin' feeeeL gooOd!' Somehow there's a little bit of Lion King mixed in with all the synth stacks and jitter beats on this one… and there's nothing more Coach & Ref than that…"
